Bliss & Despair Gia Joseph giasuniverse

Update Sep 2015: My blog is changing. I have decided not to publish the second draft of my novel just yet due to creative struggle and plotting issues, but I missed blogging, so from now on I am expanding the topics to include my photography, creative writing, poetry, short stories, memories, writing struggles….

This blog is a first draft of a novel in progress provisionally called Bliss & Despair. It is a partially autobiographical fiction novel.

What is it about?

A young artist discovers her old journal in the attic and embarks on an emotional journey to uncover the reasons behind a bizarre connection she shared with a perplexing loner classmate in order to save her sanity.

You can start reading from the beginning here.

It is a journey in progress. I am almost at the end, and I can see the improvement, I made in my writing over the past year. When I reach the end, I will go back and re write and reorganize this blog for easier reading.

I write under a pen name Gia Joseph. I am a very private person. By changing my name I can be myself without censoring anything out, I am free to unleash my creativity without limitation.

Gia is a variation of the name Ligeia from E. A. Poe’s poem of the same title. I also really like his poem The Raven, as it evokes the story I am writing here on this blog.

I feel a strong urge to tell the story of Gia and Lokie, because it has been my life, my curse, my inspiration, my despair, my cryptonite… I hope that it might help someone else, even if it is just one person, I will be happy.

I have never actually told anyone all of the details of this crazy story, because I am too embarrassed, and it just got too weird. The only person who knows a lot about it is my best friend Dana, and without her I probably wouldn’t be here to tell it.

Some of the poems are translated from another language, so there might be a flow issue sometimes. Maybe I should include the original, I don’t know yet.

English is not my first language so please excuse any errors, that there might be.

I welcome any feedback that will improve my writing. Please comment, I will appreciate it very much!

I am married to an artist and we have two children. I am an artistic type, always coming up with new ideas. A bit of a dreamer with a desire to make a difference. A life long student with thirst for knowledge. I read a lot.

The music videos in some of the chapters have a special meaning to me or its lyrics are relevant to the story, or it was popular at that time. (I have stopped including the videos because my stats say that nobody watches them. If you think I should add videos to my latest posts please let me know.)

My other BIG passion is photography, and I am happy to finally use the tens of thousands of photos I have taken over the years. Most photos were taken with an iPhone. I am saving up for a Nikon 3200, and I can’t wait to get one! I took most of the photographs here unless otherwise stated. Update Nov 2015: I finally got my camera now I am saving up for better lenses. :-p

I have another blog for posts that are not directly related to Gia and Lokie’s story here.

Thank you very much for stopping by and reading my blog! Lots of Love Gia xox

PS: I am playing around with book covers…what do you think about the one above? I am not sure about the  text colors-although it is quite fitting that Bliss should be white and Despair black…Any thoughts?

Quote the Raven, “Nevermore.” I love the Raven–favorite poem of all time–seriously. I taught high school English for five years and taught the poem. I love Poe as well.
You and I met at Romance Done Right’s Meet and Greet. Thank you for saying “hi”.
